The Humbug: D&G – Spider 9 Portal Axles!

leave a comment »

As you could see in earlier topics, the Humbug will be the first buggy using the Spidertrax Spider 9 axles in combination with the D&G Portal boxes!!

These Portal boxes are completely designed in house @ D&G 4×4 Tuning and bolted on the new Spidertrax Pro Series 60 Knuckle. The axle shafts are 300 M shafts with 35 splines with CTM U-J’s and the very strong Hi Pinion Ford 9 inch differential.

For the steering we have chosen for a complete HOWE setup for the front and rear axle (as the truck will have rear steering as well).

Below the first pictures of the axles ready to bolt on the Buggy!

The new Spidertrax Pro Series 60 Knuckle!

Light as always. Stronger than ever.

Spidertrax introduced their first fabricated knuckle over 5 years ago. Today, the Pro Series 60 Knuckle takes professional offroaders to an all new level. Better materials, bigger bearings, & larger bolts make this the strongest knuckle yet. All while holding the same compact & lightweight design philosophy you have come to expect.

Chromoly construction.
No cast or mild steel parts found here. All components are CNC manufactured out of domestic grade 4130 chromoly steel. Best of all, nearly every single component is made right here in Colorado, USA.

7/8″ bolts & bearings.
The use of 7/8″ spherical bearings & 7/8″ Spider Bolts makes this hardware assembly both easy to install & virtually indestructible. The entire bearing assembly consists of nothing more than a Spider Bolt, shim washer, spherical bearing, shoulder washer, & type C nut. Combined, each knuckle can withstand over 21,500 lbs of axial loading & over 130,000 lbs of radial loading. No grease, no weak links, no hassle.

50° of steering.
An OEM style 60 knuckle can turn only 38&deg. The Pro Series 60 Knuckle can turn all the way to 50°, tighter then any steering knuckle on the market. Plus, the use of a 6 bolt interlocking chromoly steering arm makes it one of the strongest as well (steering arms sold separately).

Compact & lightweight.
An entire Pro Series 60 Knuckle, complete with inner knuckle, outer knuckle, & all hardware needed for the assembly, weighs less than 33 lbs. This is roughly 2 times lighter then OEM style 60 knuckles, making it by far the lightest knuckle in its class.

This Pro Series Knuckle Kit is designed to press fit onto a Spider 9 housing with 3-1/2″ OD tube and accepts a Spidertrax 1 Ton Unit Bearing (unit bearing mounting hardware included).
